Average Age of Pastors

Well lately I’ve been trying to put out an interesting statistic on churches once a day. Today that is the average of entering pastors. Turns out the average age is 51 which is older than in the past. This could be due to the fact that people are living longer.

What is it about getting older that brings us closer to God? I’ve noticed as I get older, I really want to know with certainty that there is a God. This is probably due to the fact that when I was a child, I felt invincible. Now I’m not so sure. Overall I think it is a good thing that as we draw closer to the end of our lives, we seem to mellow out and turn to God. One of his many tender mercies.

 

Interesting Church Stat of the Day

Okay, as I was peruzing the Internet as I usually do looking for something interesting to report on, I stumbled accross this statistic: the median small church pastor made around $31,000 a year. Wow! I thought that was quite low and that for all of the hard work they put in they should be making more than that. That being said, pastors are probably more interested in serving God than making money (at least we would hope so).

Another interesting note on a related topic: Jewish Rabbis make more on average than a Christian Pastor and Catholic Priest combined. This isn’t a huge surprise as the Jews seem to have always had the upper hand when it comes to finances.

 

Church Statistics Continued…

So it turns out that I was able to find a lot more information about normal churches, than new churches. This blog is, for better or worse, turning more into a general information guide for churches in general as opposed to only new churches.If anyone knows of a great site that has useful information about new churches, please let me know.

The statistic of the day is the average size of a church in the United States. According to a USCLS, 186 is the magic number. Meaning that the average church has 186 members that attend regularly. Interestingly enough the median was only 75 regular participants. Meaning that half of the churches in the U.S. have less than 75 regular participants and half have more. Does this surprise you? The church I attend usually has around 200 members a week so this seems about in line with what I’ve been reading on the Internet.

 

Some Statistics On Churches

After some researching, I finally found a good article on the number of churches in the United States. Below are some of the highlights from the report.

Thousands of new churches open each year. This was quite a surprise to me as I don’t see churches starting up in my community. I would be interested ot hear what some of my readers experience on this is. I guess that is a good thing as hopefully more and more people are coming to know God.

Experts in the study of church estimate that there are around 330,000 congregations in the United States. They have no hard numbers because noone seems to track this. Of those most of them are Protestant/Christian Churches. More information coming in the Future.

 

New Churches!

Welcome all ye who seek to start a new church or find out about people who are starting a new church. Let me just give a brief explanation for how I decided to start this site. I’ve been a devout Christian for my whole life (well if you can count being forced to go to church as a kid as devout). When I hit the age of about 12 I started to really enjoy going to church. Now I’ve served a mission to Mexico and I’m studying accounting.

Well as I was working on a church accounting website I became curious as to the amount of new churches being founded every day. I even found out that they had a term for this “church planting.” Interesting eh? So that is how this blog came into existence. Over the next few days I hope to bring you statistics about the number of new churches as well as information to help get your church planted.
